Bio

Utah Miller is a Baltimore-based singer-songwriter and composer. Miller first showed an interest in music at age three and began teaching themself drums at five, when their grandfather gave them an old drum set for their birthday. At ten, they started learning guitar and some bass, and at eleven, they played saxophone in their middle school band; they learned how to "fake" play a handful of other instruments between their teens and early twenties. Miller took guitar lessons for seven years at the Baltimore School of Rock—and taught at the Columbia school for two years—and studied saxophone performance with Tim Green at Baltimore School for the Arts high school.

Miller was the lead singer, guitarist, and songwriter of the band Legends of Et cetera, which they formed with their cousin and two best friends in April 2013. The band released its first album when Utah was a senior in high school, and a second album as a sophomore at Peabody Institute.

As a composer at Peabody, Miller's goal was to write interesting tonal music for acoustic and electronic media. They have wanted to be a film composer since they were very young and have scored two films for a friend; they have also decided to pursue electronic music by way of their solo songwriting project, San Junipero.

Miller is gay and genderfluid, working for more representation for the LGBTQ+ community in the arts. Many of their songs are about struggles with mental illness, sexuality, and identity, and they feel as though they can create art that many can relate to. they wants to "create something utterly beautiful."
